Small Town Garden

In this small garden, the brief was to minimise
the hard surfaces leaving plenty of room for planting, including a useful vegetable garden. Overhead timbers
to improve privacy and provide more space for plants to scramble around.

Interlocking shapes create a route through the garden such that
not all is visible at once. From the house, the small central sitting area is out of site behind lush planting,
and is accessed by walking under the pergola. The planting beds are slightly raised with substantial timber edges, and
a single small tree echoes the forms of mature trees in neighbouring gardens.

Country Garden
This
garden already has a substantial raised terrace. The brief is to design a garden with an arts-and-craft feel, juxtaposing
formal structure with informal planting and creating long views. Unusually, this is required to be a high-maintenance
garden.
Low clipped hedges and substantial timber edges create a formal
structure and straight-line vistas across the garden. Espaliered fruit trees screen the vegetable garden from the flower
garden and views are framed by timberwork and an ornamental gate. On the terrace, the existing timberwork is extended
to create an enclosed dining area that will benefit from the shade cast by climbing plants.
