Recent Design Projects
These are some of the gardens I have been working on over the
past year.
Some of these designs have
now been built and I will add photographs as they become available. The photos here show the garden as I first
encountered it. (Click to enlarge each picture.)

Level change: The proposal increases the size of the
terrace and makes a feature of the route down to the lawn. The landing next to the pond will accommodate a bench.

Difficult Levels: A significant level change
in a confined space presents a real design challenge. The new layout creates a more interesting garden, providing a
comfortable place to sit, improved access to the garage at the lower level and removes the maintenance overhead presented
by the grass.

A Sunken Terrace: The already excavated terrace
is re-shaped to match the straight lines of the rest of the garden. The sunken terrace becomes a comfortable place to
sit and entertain guests, with its built-in seat and intermediate levels. The materials - new sleepers and shingle -
are an inexpensive solution.

A usable space: the new outdoor dining
area becomes a focal point in the garden, enclosed by raised beds and a simple timber beam.

Traditional family home: the new design links
the house to the garden using timberwork, planting and paving, and provides an elegant outdoor dining space.
